Site Visit & Measurement along Sg Kelantan

Differences between two scenarios at the same point, Pasar Besar Kuala Krai. The first picture and second pictures are during the normal and the 2014 Flood Event, respectively.

8th – 15th Sep 2021 (8 days), I go to Sg Kelantan for a site visit and measurement. With two units of the drone and 1 unit of Emlid Reach RS+ (GPS), I go to Sg Kelantan by my car from Perlis. The primary purpose for the visiting, to look by own eye, on how the Sg. Kelantan looks like and measures the flood level during the 2014-major flood event. I will use the measurement data to verify the hydrodynamic modelling that I develop to simulate the flood events along with Sg. Kelantan.

For this visit, several points have been selected along with the Sg. Kelantan. The visiting started at two points near Guillemard Bridge (Tanah Merah), then three points at Kuala Krai. One point at Pasir Mas and lastly, one point at the downstream of Sg Kelantan. Therefore, seven total points have been identified. I cannot extend the measurement points due to the own safety and local regulations since our measurement is during the National Recovery Plan (NCP). Kelantan during this time under the 2nd Phase of NRP.

Suppose the measurement activities along with Sg. Kelantan conducted by my students: Final Year Project (FYP) and postgraduate students. However, my students cannot measure since interstate travel is not permitted due to the pandemic of COVID19. Therefore, I decided to go on my own to the site before the fund of this project ended in November. Besides, the end of the year is not a suitable time to go to Kelantan since the area will face heavy rain due to the monsoon season, and the possibility of the flood occurred is higher. Therefore, I don’t want to take the risk to the site during the rainy season, and September should be a nice time for the measurement.
